This winter has been hard on everyone. Especially those of us who like to ride our motorcycles. This past Saturday, the weather was just too nice to stay home so my wife and I and my brother and his wife had the privilege to ride with our local CMA(Christian Motorcycle Association) to Moonshine Illinois to their annual ride in. The weather couldn’t have been better. My wife and I headed out early Saturday morning.
We stopped off at my brother Steve’s house and picked up him and his wife, Charlene.
We met up with the CMA group in a small town south of us and followed them to Moonshine.
Moonshine is located in South Central Illinois and unless you know where you are going, you will not be able to find it. On the way, we passed several miles of oil wells and oil holding tanks.
I did not realize that there was that kind of operation going on in that part of our state. I don’t know if they collect very much oil or not but it certainly was impressive.
Fortunately for us, our leader had been to Moonshine before and led us directly there. Here we are pulling up as close as we could get to Moonshine.
This was parking at its finest. Moonshine is located at a crossroads. In every direction from the store, there were bikes.
We had to park so far from the store we could not see it in front of us, but we knew we were heading in the right direction because everyone else was headed that way also. On our way there, we ran into a road block. There were so many bikes at this event that they just started parking in the middle of the road and blocking the road. Unfortunately for this mail lady, she got trapped about half way down this road. She had to back out of all of this congestion so she could continue on with her deliveries.
On our way there, I saw this neat cycle. Also note all of the bikes parked along this road that goes South from the store.
These next 2 pictures are looking to the north from the store. Bikes, bikes, and more bikes.
Finally, we got to the Moonshine Store. This store has been featured on CBS Sunday Morning Show, several Central Illinois television stations, and magazines.
The inside of the store was where we were going to get our taste of that delicious Moonburger. Unfortunately, we were going to have to get into this line. And to get into this line, we would have to find the end of it.
This is the end of the line that we had to stand in. There was plenty of conversation going on and meeting new people from all over the United States and Canada to talk to.
This wasn’t just about riding long distances and eating a hamburger, it was also about meeting old friends and making new ones.
Time went fast and before we knew it, we were standing on the front porch.
The inside of the store gives it the charm and friendly atmosphere that everyone talks about.
So this is where the Moonburger is made. Right here on this small grill.
I ordered a Moonburger with bacon. Actually, it was a double Moonburger with bacon and it was good.
You order your burger, get a soda, chips, etc. and then head outside to eat your meal. Everything is on the honor system. You eat, then go to the cashier and tell them what you had, and pay. This is the outside where all of the eating took place.
I walked around some of the bikes taking pictures of their license plates to see just how far some of them had ridden. There were a good representation of several states. Check out the plate from Canada.
Several of the bikes were loaded to the top with tents, extra gas cans, and bed rolls. This gentleman was from Michigan.
Note the spare gas can on this guys seat.
And this fine gentleman added his carpentry skills into his ride. Note the back rest and luggage rack.
Here is one of a rider honoring the men and woman who serve our country.
And those who honor the Risen Christ.
It was a fine day. Good eats, and plenty of fellowship. Now we head home.
