CHEROKEE NORTH CAROLINA

At the end of our trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway, we stayed at the KOA Campground in Cherokee, NC.  We had mentioned that we would like to go back there again and just base out of there while we explored some of the area.  This was the year.  The campground is quite large.

We checked in and were able to get the same site that we had the previous year.  It was nice and shaded with a covered picnic table and close to the showers.

What we didn’t know was the the campground had been taken over by Corporate KOA.  We usually only stay at KOA campgrounds, and we must say that this campground was by far the worst one that we had stayed in.  I d0n’t know if they were trying to save money or what.  We were told when we checked in that they had wifi.  We couldn’t pick up any wifi and after checking with several campers who had been there a while, that said that they hadn’t had wifi all summer.  The showers were moldy paint peeling, and 2 toilets were completely stopped up.  I let the office know that the toilets were stopped up and they didn’t fix them until 12 hours later.  This was one of the costliest campgrounds that we had stayed in and we were thoroughly disappointed.

It had a river running along one side of the campground and a small lake on the other.  The area where it is located is just beautiful.   Below are some pictures of the rivers and scenery.

A couple miles north of the campground, there was a waterfall.  We decided to check it out.  When we arrived, we found that we would have to do some climbing.  It wasn’t too bad for a couple of old geezers, but I felt it in the legs when I finally reached the top.

One day, we decided to take a ride to Bryson City.  What a beautiful little town.  Here are some pictures.

The scenery back to the campgrounds was impressive.

I would like to go back to that area again but stay in a different campground.  By the end of the week, we were ready to head back home.

Bryson City is a great place enjoy all the pictures on your website. I ride a Suzuki Burgman trike came down from Cincinnati the long way that is not on the expressway. We had a great two weeks a few years back. Beautiful waterfalls and what a great ride no rain and warm. Was looking at the waterfall that one needs to walk up like 150 steps that is very cool. We went there had a hard time finding it drove past twice. The park at Bryson City was pretty cool as well and the railroad station all worth a ride down there.
